About Compare100
Compare100 is run by Andrew King, who has been working since 1991. It is not owned by an insurer, a bank, a broker or a private equity group — it is a small independent site, run by one person, comparing UK providers since 2011.
We cover insurance, savings and current accounts, loans and mortgages, mobile and broadband, energy, motoring, travel and shopping — around 100 categories in total.
This page explains three things most comparison sites leave vague: how we make money, how we research what we publish, and what our comparisons do not cover. If you are going to act on anything we write, you should know all three first.

How we make money, stated plainly
When you follow a link from this site to a provider and take out a product, we may be paid a commission by that provider or by the affiliate network they use. You pay nothing extra — the price is the same as going direct.
That is the entire business model. We do not charge readers, we do not sell data, and we do not run display advertising across the site.
What commission does not do:
- It does not decide the order providers appear in.
- It does not stop us saying a provider is poor value. Our Lloyds cash ISA page says the easy-access rate costs a full-allowance saver around £760 a year against the market, and that page carries a link like any other.
- It does not remove providers who pay nothing. Several products we cover earn us no commission at all.
Where a page carries commercial links, there is a disclosure at the top of it. Every page, not just some.
Independent, and small enough to say so
Most of the comparison sites you will have heard of are owned by somebody. Several are part of insurance groups, several more are owned by investment firms with an interest in the products being compared. That is not necessarily wrong, but it is rarely stated on the page.
Compare100 is run by one person and owned by nobody else. There is no parent company, no investor with a stake in which provider you choose, and no commercial team negotiating placement.
The trade-off is honest: a one-person site cannot cover every provider in the market or re-check every rate the day it changes. What it can do is say plainly when a product is poor value, because there is no relationship to protect. Our Lloyds cash ISA page does exactly that.
How we research what we publish
Figures on our pages come from the provider's own published terms, product summaries and key facts documents — not from other comparison sites, which are frequently out of date.
Where we cite independent assessments, we name the source: Defaqto star ratings, Which? customer and interest-rate scores, Fairer Finance ratings, and complaint volumes published by the Financial Ombudsman Service and the FCA.
If we cannot verify a figure, we say so rather than repeating it. You will see phrases like “confirm the current rate with the provider” on our pages, and that is deliberate — variable rates move, and a number that was right last month may be wrong today.
Every page shows the date its figures were last checked. If that date looks old to you, treat the numbers as indicative and confirm with the provider before applying.
What we are not
We are not a regulated financial adviser. Nothing on this site is personal financial advice. We publish factual comparisons and opinions about products; we do not know your circumstances, and we cannot tell you what to buy.
For regulated advice, speak to an FCA-authorised adviser. For free impartial guidance, MoneyHelper is government-backed and costs nothing.
We are not a broker and we do not generate quotes. When you click through, you are dealing with the provider or with a regulated comparison service, and their terms apply from that point.
We do not cover the whole market. Our category pages list the providers we have researched, which is not every provider available. A product being absent from our site is not a judgement on it.
Getting things wrong, and putting them right
Rates change, providers withdraw products, and terms get revised without notice. Some of what we publish will be out of date at any given moment, and occasionally something will simply be wrong.
If you find an error — a rate that has moved, a limit we have misstated, a product that no longer exists — tell us through the contact page and we will correct it. Corrections to factual errors are made as soon as we can verify the right figure, and the “checked” date on the page is updated when we do.
If you believe we have treated a provider unfairly, we would rather hear that too. We would sooner be corrected than be wrong in public.
Common questions
Does it cost more to buy through Compare100?
No. You pay the same price as going direct to the provider. Our commission is paid by the provider, not added to your price.
Do providers pay to appear higher up?
No. Commission does not affect the order providers are listed in, and we publish critical assessments of providers who pay us.
Is Compare100 regulated by the FCA?
No. We publish information and comparisons, not regulated financial advice. For regulated advice speak to an FCA-authorised adviser; for free impartial guidance, MoneyHelper is government-backed.
Do you cover every provider in the market?
No. We list the providers we have researched in each category, which is not the whole market. A provider being absent is not a judgement on them.
How current are your figures?
Each page displays the date its figures were last verified against the provider's own published terms. Variable rates can change at any time, so always confirm before applying.
How do I report something that is wrong?
Use the contact page. We correct factual errors as soon as we can verify the correct figure, and update the page's checked date when we do.
